About Ashapoorna Devi (Asha Purna Devi)
Ashapoorna Devi was a well known novelist and poet who became the first woman of India awarded with the Jnanpith Award in 1976. She was born on 8th of January in 1909 in Potoldanga, North Calcutta to the Harendra Nath Gupta and Sarola Sundari. She got married to the Kalidas Gupta in the year 1924 and has a son Sushanta. She died on 13th of July in the year 1995.

She was very interested towards reading books however, during her childhood she was not allowed to go to the school because of her grandmother. After shifting her family to other place, she got new chance to go to school and fulfill her wishes. She and her sisters were used to of composing and reciting poems. She became inspired and sent her poem secretly to get published. She became famous in the year 1922 at her 13 after publishing her poem “Bairer Dak”. In this way she made her permanent place into the literature kingdom.
