BMR calculator is a basal metabolic rate calculator which identifies the daily calories requirement of the body.
What is BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)
Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is very close to the resting metabolic rate (RMR) of the body which identifies the actual rate of energy expenditure by the body of any person at resting stage. It is measured in calorie per day. Our body require minimum set of energy amount for normal functioning of various vital organs (brain, heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, intestine, sex organs, muscles and skin) even at resting stage or during sleep which we can calculate using BMR calculator.
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) calculated by using BMR calculator is the estimate of how much calories our body need to burn at rest for 24 hours means BMR is the minimum amount of calorie required by our body to keep it functioning well.
BMR does not mean that the calories required by the body to burn during daily activities or exercises so, we need to take extra calories other than BMR to burn during daily activities or exercises.
Why BMR is Necessary to Calculate
Calculating BMR (basal metabolic rate) is very necessary for every person (especially weight watchers or weight conscious people) to get their daily body requirement of energy at resting or sleeping stage and to realize that they need more calories to compensate the calorie burned during daily activities, exercises and other hard works.
Some people (in the myth of weight loss or burn fat) eat only the amount of food providing required or minimum amount of calories on daily basis and get weak soon. However, it is very necessary for everyone to know that our body need calories even at rest or sleep stage. And it is best to all of us that we should eat healthy, balanced and timely diet and go for the daily exercise for set time under any trainer.
How BMR is Calculated
BMR can be calculated very simply by anybody using BMR calculator form (given above) or formula given below. It needs gender, weight in kg, height in centimetre and age in years.
For Men: (13.75 x weight) + (5 x height) – (6.76 x age) + 66
For Female: (9.56 x weight) + (1.85 x height) – (4.68 x age) + 655
Calculate Your Daily Calorie Requirement using Your Actual BMR
Calculating daily calorie requirement of any person is very easy if he/she gets his/her actual BMR using BMR calculator. Daily requirement of the calorie depends on the activity level of the person on daily basis. Using Harris Benedict Equation, actual calculated BMR and activity level, we can easily get our daily calorie requirement of the body. This formula fit for only healthy and muscular people, not for very weak and lean muscle people as weak people need to take more energy for daily activities.
We just need to multiply our calculated BMR into activity factor according to the activity level in order to get accurate daily calories requirement. First decide one best category from all the five categories given below to calculate your daily calories requirement:
- * Sedentary means a person with little or no exercise = (BMR x 1.2)
- * A light active person with light exercises/sports for only 1 to 3 days a week = (BMR x 1.375)
- * A moderate active person with moderate exercises/sports for only 3 to 5 days a week = (BMR x 1.55)
- * A very active person with hard exercises/sports for 6 to 7 days a week = (BMR x 1.725)
- * An extra active person with very hard exercises/sports or physical job or 2x training = (BMR x 1.9)
