Biography of Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai is one of the leading contemporary actress and model of Indian film Cinema. Born on November 1, 1973, this beautiful actress has been Bollywood’s highest paid actress. She has garnered two Filmfare awards and several others awards and nominations for her performances. The government of India has awarded her with Padma Shri in 2009 while the Government of France has given her Ordre Des Arts et des Letters.
Aishwarya took part in Miss India Pageant and came out as runner up. In 1994, she participated in Miss World pageant in which she came out as winner. She then pursued her career in acting and made her debut with biographical film Iruvar in 1997. She then starred in romantic drama Jeans in 1998. Aishwarya was born in Mangalore, Karnataka in a Bunt Family of Krishnaraj and his wife Brinda. Krishnaraj was a marine biologist while Brinda is a homemaker. In 1997, Aishwarya made her acting debut with a Tamil film Iruvar which was a semi biographical political drama. The film was critically acclaimed and won best Film Award at Belgrade International Film Festival.
Her first Bollywood film was Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya opposite Bobby Deol in which she played the role of a naive teenager Ashi. In 1998, she did big budget Tamil film Jeans wherein she played the role of a young Tamil woman Madhumita. Her dancing skills were appreciated in this movie. In 1999, the first movie she did was melodrama Aa Ab Laut Chalen. The film was a commercial failure and Rai’s performance got negative reviews.
Rai’s career took a turning point with Sanjay Leela bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. It was an adaptation of Bengali Novel Na Hanyate. Aishwarya played the role of a Gujarti girl Nandini. In addition to Aishwarya, the film was co-starred by Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. The film came out as a major commercial success with Aishwarya winning Filmfare Award for Best Actress. After ending a tumultuous relationship with Salman Khan in 2001, she started seeing Abhishek Bachchan after doing Dhoom 2 with him. They officially announced their engagement on January 14, 2007 and then got married on April 20, 2007 according to Hindu rites of Bunt community. The couple’s wedding was a private ceremony held at Bachchan’s residence Prateeksha in Juhu Mumbai.
